Important News Regarding the

Alaska Quarterly SUI Reporter and the Alaska New Hire Reporter

As of December 28th, 2005

Intuit has changed the format of its QuickBooks 2006 data file format to a new (SQL Anywhere database) system.  This is radically different from their proprietary data storage system of the past, that the Alaska Quarterly SUI Reporter can read.  Because of the change, complete Payroll data can no longer be imported and some of the error checking and features such as the ability to automatically count the number of Employees that worked on the 12th of each month and the 7th Bi-Weekly Form support has been dropped from our program for QuickBooks Company files saved in the 2006 (or newer) format.  That's the Bad News...

The 2006 Version of our AK Quarterly SUI Reporter may be the last that you will need to purchase.   It was actually in the 2004 Version of QuickBooks Pro that a feature for exporting some of the Payroll data to Excel was first introduced by Intuit.  By making use of this feature, you will be able to Acquire the data needed to complete the Alaska Quarterly Contributions Report using our program.  Note: You must have Microsoft Excel installed on your computer to acquire this data.  As long as Intuit keeps this feature in newer versions of QuickBooks, you will be able to use our v2006 year-after-year without having to purchase future Upgrades.  Plus our SUI Reporter program can still do Electronic Filing with the State of Alaska.  That's something the Extra $100/yr for Intuit's "Enhanced Payroll Service" can't even provide.  So that's the really Good News...

Now a little more Bad News...

One can only speculate as to why Intuit allows full access to all of YOUR data through their SDK development program except for Payroll Data (which allows for little more than providing employee names).  Could it be to protect their highly profitable Payroll Services and to discourage any kind of competition in this area?  Well they've exceeded as far as producing a workable "Alaska New Hire Reporter".  At least for now.
